Why do I need to share my photo and ID to create my wallet?
The Bank of Tanzania requires all financial institutions to verify the identity of their customers, commonly known as 'Know Your Customer’ (KYC) and 'Customer Due Diligence' (CDD), during onboarding. These are measures to combat fraud, money laundering, and terrorism financing.
My wallet is pending or on hold. What does that mean?
Your wallet is created after your identity and other details are verified. Normally the process takes a few minutes but, in some cases, can take up to two business days. Your wallet will be in a pending state during this time.
If some of the identity details you provide cannot be verified by our KYC team, your wallet creation request will be placed on hold. You will be notified of the same and prompted to correct the information highlighted in the app.

An MPIN is a six-digit passcode used to authenticate transactions and access sensitive information on the Simba Money app. Although remembering this number may seem cumbersome at first, it adds an important and necessary layer of security to protect against unauthorized use of your account.
For security purposes, it is critical that you keep your MPIN confidential and not share it with anyone. Simba Money, its employees, or agents will never ask you for your password, MPIN, OTP, or debit card PIN. Also, please don’t share these credentials over email, call, SMS, web links, or social media.
If someone ever asks for your MPIN, please do not under any circumstances, reveal this information. We cannot stress this enough.
